The North Country Cooperative Corporation is seeking a General Manager to oversee store operations.

The General Manager shall act as a community liaison and advocate for the Co-op’s mission.

The General Manager shall be responsible for store operations which include:

  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws: licenses, permits, health regulations, and employment requirements
  • Developing and maintain relationships with outside contractors, other businesses, government agencies, wholesale distributors, local markets, producers, and industry sources
  • Ensuring that all insurance requirements are met
  • Overseeing the maintenance, security, and safety of the store
  • Maintaining the store’s high standard of customer service

The General Manger shall be responsible for budgetary and financial operations which include:

  • Developing annual operating, capital, and cash budgets
  • Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of store operations, including information on margins, sales, and profits to the board and membership

The General Manager shall assist the board with:

  • Development of long term vision for the Co-op
  • Setting store development goals and priorities
  • Assess capital needs and developing sources of capital
  • Accomplishing tasks assigned by the board

The General Manager shall be responsible for managing a team and will:

  • Work with the Co-op’s existing management team
  • Recruit, hire, train, and promote employees as needed
  • Discipline and/or terminate employees if necessary
  • Promote and support participatory leadership
  • Develop structure that ensures a fair distribution of work while maintaining standards
  • Work with the Board to set wages and benefits for employees
  • Update and administrate the store’s employee grievance procedures

The General Manager shall be responsible for marketing and merchandising, including:

  • Development of purchasing and pricing guidelines
  • Promotions, displays and signage
  • Newsletter, advertising, and other communications to promote awareness of Co-op structure, products and services

A qualified applicant shall have:

  • At least three years of natural foods retail grocery experience
  • At least three years of supervisory experience
  • Strong financial skills, with the ability to analyze store needs and performance
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, cooperatives including respect and support for the process of cooperative unity and a commitment to cooperative values and principles
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, and the ability to multitask

Salary is commensurate with experience
